Driving is a complex task, and for safe driving, you need to know the rules of sharing the road with other road users, which may include various types of vehicles such as e-scooters, buses, motorcycles, bicycles, and of course, pedestrians.
Temporary or full road closures require an approved KAUST Work Permit and Road Closure License before work starts with early coordination with HSE, Security and Emergency Services and other stakeholders as may be required concerning the anticipated roadway operations.
When planning an event or exhibit/project in public spaces (e.g., using a tent/, decorations, extension cords), the event sponsor is responsible for protecting the safety and health of their participants, audience members, and attendees.
HSE utilizes Highfield as its official Certified Training Centre, a leading international awarding organization for work-based learning qualifications, in a diverse set of workplace competencies to serve the needs of the KAUST community and the workplace.
Trained and certified HSE trainers administer and deliver First Aid training. Classroom-based training meets the requirements for training emergency first-aiders in organizations that have identified staff that require training to levels that depend on the risk of the workplace and the number of employees. In addition, our courses are suitable for persons with no previous qualification or experience in First Aid.
In KAUST, we are fortunate to have and enjoy various indoor and outdoor recreational facilities and activities. HSE supports recreation and marine activities at KAUST in partnership with our stakeholders.
We ensure safe facilities by conducting risk assessments and through our inspection program. All recreational pools in KAUST are staffed by qualified lifeguards and receive regular refreshment training to maintain their skill set.
Special attention is given to the activities inside science laboratories, art studios, technology rooms, and design shops. Teachers of these subjects must take a core of safety and health training, i.e., Laboratory Safety, Emergency Incident Preparedness, and Hazardous Waste, before being allowed to use the facilities.
Students that use the laboratories and other shops mentioned above are also required to complete this training and other training specific to expected hazards.
