One of the best ways for one to enjoy the Red Sea, is indisputably by recreational fishing.
The Kaust Fishing Club is composed by a group of fishing lovers that use mainly the recreational angling method, a very sustainable kind of fishing compared to other methods, due to the low-impact, exceedingly selective catching gear used and the high survival rate of the fish released.
The Red Sea is perfect for those who want to engage into big game popping, jigging, trolling and even fly fishing! KAUST Saltwater Anglers was created with the aim of bringing together KAUST community members through on-campus fishing activities to promote knowledge of marine biodiversity at KAUST.
On campus, there are a few designated fishing areas, that can be found in the map as shown below. KAUST Saltwater Anglers are working with HSE to open even more water on campus for fishing and other aquatic activities. Note that, except for the areas marked in red on the map below, all fishing on campus is catch and release.
A catch and release policy helps maintain the biodiversity and the quality of the fishing on campus so that this amazing resource can be enjoyed by future KAUST community members.
