The Research Safety Team provides guidance and oversight to research staff. Our focus is to provide proactive direction to facilitate compliance and support to work safely in the laboratories.
Assessments are used in research safety to conduct Lab Review Self Assessments, Lab Safety Assessments conducted by HSE, and Specialized Risk Assessments.
Lab assessments provide a coordinated and consistent approach to assess compliance, verification of controls, safety performance, correct issues and prioritize areas for improvement with respect to laboratory safety.
The universe is our huge laboratory. Conducting research outside of KAUST laboratory premises is considered field research, thus it has certain hazards associated with it. The Field Research Safety Program provides a framework to ensure safety and security of all KAUST researchers, as well as a wide variety of resources to help you determine the safety needs for your upcoming field research.
The KAUST Laboratory Safety Representative (LSR) Program was initiated in 2011. The primary goals of the program are to increase awareness, communication, and collaboration between the research community and the Lab Safety Team, and to ultimately promote a culture of safety and trust at KAUST.
The main objective of the Research Safety Certificate Program is to encourage KAUST lab members to broaden their safety knowledge by taking diverse courses related to laboratory safety and to recognize their efforts and reward their commitment to safety by granting a Research Safety Certificate.
Lab design is a multi-faceted challenge; it plays a huge part in the research process, combining elements of offices and research spaces; one of the main objectives is to promote efficient scientific work and safe operations.
This page provides resources for Laboratory Design, from lessons learned, links to KAUST Standards, and some documents to guide the process for the safe startup of laboratory operations.
Persons leaving KAUST that worked in a laboratory will have to go through a departure clearance process. No need to do this process if you only worked in a office or computer lab space.
